ArtsinStark’s second biggest grants category (after Operating Grants) is the $150,000 - $200,000 that goes out in Special Project Grants (Innovation Grants and SmArts Grants). ArtsinStark makes Innovation Grants for projects by non-profit organizations and individual artists that use the arts in new ways.
Non-profit organizations can request up to $10,000 with a 50% cash match required, and individual artists can request a $500 Mini-Grant with no match required.
Examples of Innovation Grants are:
$3,600 for music classes for disadvantaged kids in Alliance.
$500 for artist Kevin Anderson to host joint exhibit of 30 writers and visual artists.
$2,300 for the Ohio Youth Ballet in Canal Fulton to present a dance weekend.
$500 for artist Craig Joseph to mount a play about censorship and artistic responsibility.
$6,800 for the Massillon Museum to mount a new touring exhibit.
